3-D CUBES - 1982

During my second year at art college, I decided to restrict my subject to repeating cubes. This was a kind of challenge - can I make cubes look interesting? I first explored this theme in 3-D, using cardboard models, a small selection of which are shown above. I used one to make a plaster mould, and used that to make several clay 'units' which I assembled into a 'cube pyramid', shown above glazed and fired (maximum dimensions about 36 x 25 cm x 20 cm tall).
