CONCEPTION - 1983

Acrylic paint on 120 lb Saunders paper, image size 73 x 51 cm, available framed in plain silver coloured metal (on wood) frame (overall size 95 x 76 cm).

This was the first ‘cubefield’ painting. Visually it was inspired by a photograph of a crack in a plane of soap bubbles. The crack, i.e. the background, becomes the figure or foreground. To emphasise this the torn sides won’t fit back together. I see lightening illuminating an idea, but some see a swimming sperm.

The basic pattern was designed and drawn on tracing paper, traced onto thick watercolour paper and then painted with Liquitex artist-quality acrylics using square-tipped brushes.
