SUSSWORMS - 1983 Top left: a computer print-out of John's first computer program, in BBC BASIC, to continuously draw cubes on the screen. Watching the cubes change was compelling and provided entertainment for a local disco. Right: this is from a simple video about machine intelligence - it shows the BASIC programs running in John's brain. Bottom left and right: sample screenshots of another BASIC program called "Sussworms" that drew a 'continuously changing line' on the screen. There were several modes (to make mazes, knots, tiles - as above - and pseudo engineering drawings), each operated entirely automatically and even 'knew' the best time to stop drawing. < Back to Early Works Or choose a different gallery below.
